
Zachary Borovay combines cutting-edge computer technology with old world techniques to bring a soulful and organic world to life on stage.
Recent works include PEEPSHOW (Planet Hollywood Casino Las Vegas), THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (Universal Studios Hollywood), NICKELODEON’S STORYTIME LIVE (National Tour), ROCK OF AGES (Broadway, Toronto, National Tour), TO BE OR NOT TO BE (Broadway), A CATERED AFFAIR (Broadway; Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Projection and Video Design), XANADU (Broadway, National Tour, Japan), LET ME DOWN EASY (Off Broadway), LES MISERABLES (National Tour), The Radio City Music Hall CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR and THE WIZ (Utrecht, Holland). Zak has worked with directors and choreographers including Jerry Mitchell, John Doyle, Chris Ashley, Casey Nicholaw, Leonard Foglia, Kristin Hanggi, Richard Jay Alexander and producers such as Cameron Macintosh and Joop van den Ende.
In addition to his theatrical work, Zak’s projection designs have been seen on tour with musicians Simon and Garfunkel, comedian Chris Rock as well as in many corporate events and museum installations including several exhibits at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
With extensive experience in music performance, computer technology, video, photography and theatrical design, Berklee College of Music alumnus Zachary Borovay is a regular guest lecturer and author on the tools and techniques for theatrical projection design and computer technology. He is a frequent contributor to LiveDesign magazine and is the creative consultant to their Broadway Projection Master Classes.
Zak has taught projection design theory and entertainment technology design at the Yale School of Drama, New York University and Long Island University. He was profiled in The New York Times in 2008.
Zak was the first projection designer to become a member of USA 829.
